For those about to rock…

Our blog is usually pretty skater-centric, but today, we’d like to shine the spotlight on some of the badass local bands that will be providing the rock ‘n’ roll soundtrack to our 2017 season! Here’s a preview of just a few of the artists performing at TXRD bouts this year.

 

May 27th’s bout will feature garage-pop goodness by New Mystery Girl. Led by singer/songwriter/guitarist Chrissy Flatt, New Mystery Girl specializes in fuzzy, high-energy sounds designed to “shoot that teenage feeling back into your veins.” For an idea of what they’re all about, look no further than the band’s manifesto: “Passion, Lust and Adventure”! With a motto like that, we think they’ll fit right in with TXRD’s rollergirls!

 

Speaking of that teenage (or rather, tween-age) feeling, our June 24th bout will showcase rock n’ roll sounds from the cool kids of Midnight Butterfly! An all-girl outfit comprised of musicians ages 9-11 years old, Midnight Butterfly was voted #2 Best Performing Band Under 18 by the Austin Music Awards!

 

Heating up the July bout are The Phantom Shakers, the duo of Singer Elle Mae and guitarist Mark Logsdorf. Hailing from Detroit, Michigan, the Phantom Shakers draw their influence from Texas swing, traditional rockabilly, and 60s rock n’ roll. After touring everywhere from Los Angeles to Belgium, and opening for the likes of Dale Watson and the Trashmen, the Motor City pair now make Austin their home.

 

Our September 30th bout will feature the sultry, vintage sounds of Ready Betty, an eight-piece, all-girl group that specialize in “Retro Chic”! With a brass section and a catalogue boasting both originals and covers from the 1940s to the 1970s, Ready Betty brings a dose of nostalgia and a high-energy sound to get you up out of your seat during halftime!
