Born and raised in a small 13 room motel in south Florida, Venis was a disappointment to her parents. They hoped for a boy and her father split days after her birth, blaming her mother for not providing a one. Venis' mother was never able to get over the pain of losing her husband and as a result, resented Venis and raised her as a boy. She was forced to dress, act, and speak as if she was a different gender.

Venis' life took a turn on her 13th birthday when she developed breasts, literally overnight. No amount of tape could hold her back any longer. Her mother took the change hard, locking herself in her bedroom crying uncontrollably. Feeling like she had run out of options, Venis packed her bag and headed for the curb.

After hours of waiting with her thumb in the air, an 18-wheeler pulled up beside her. She hopped in the passenger side and asked where he was headed. "Austin Texas" rang in her ears. He was visiting some old friends - the Putas del Fuego. He told her their story of hardship, and how he met them hanging out one lonely night at the Calentano after a long drive.

Venis listened, amazed by these strong, proud, and tough women on skates. Once finished he asked where she was headed, without missing a beat Venis answered firmly, "Home, to my Putas."

He drove through the night dropping her off at Caps, where the Putas spend their off time. For the next eight years Venis trained in the ways of the Putas, learning to skate and live like her teammates.
