Rollers vs. Rhinestones 2/19

By TXRD Newsroom February 10, 2017

The bullies are out of detention, and the sheriff is back in town.

The Rhinestones and Rollers are at it again in the first regular season bout of 2017!

After an explosive mashup game to kick off 2017, TXRD is back with the first regular-season game of the year! This one pits the trouble-makers of Sacred Heart against the baddest bitches on the prairie as the Holy Rollers take on the Rhinestone Cowgirls!

Both teams have gone through a fair amount of rebuilding in the past year. The end of the 2016 saw the departure of heavy-hitting Roller blockers Attila the Nun and Hispanic Panic, as well as jammers Hermione Danger (who has found a new flat-track home with the Atlanta Rollergirls) and Prissy Galore. Meanwhile, the Rhinestone Cowgirls saw high-point-scorer Sassy Squasher ride off into the sunset (though she and Attila did return briefly to the Thunderdome during our season opener to kick ass and take names with Texas United Roller Derby).

With the loss of some strong talent and the acquisition of promising end-of-season draftees Felurian Steal, Calamity Jones, and NucLeah, the Rollers seem to be in a state of rebuild similar to what the Rhinestones experienced in 2016. However, they are already showing a lot of power and cohesion under the command of captains Dyers Eve and Boi Division. Meanwhile, with the return of everyone’s worst blocking nightmare Dusty Doublewide from injured leave and the addition of top draft pick Liv R. Damage, the Rhineys are looking ready to redeem their reputation as a force to be reckoned with. This game gives both teams a chance to present a strong first impression for the season, so you can be sure they won’t be pulling any punches (well, maybe a few literal punches—don’t wanna rack up major penalties, after all)!
