Rhinestone Cowgirl vs Putas del Fuego Bout Recap

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

The Rhinestone Cowgirls and las Putas del Fuego met at the Thunderdome on Sunday to see which team would skate to victory.  Would it be the steadily improving Putas, looking for their first win of the season?  Or would the Rhinestone Cowgirls, after their victory over the Holy Rollers, keep rolling to the playoffs?

The bout started with two scoreless jams.  Heine Dancer, in her last bout for the Putas before moving to Boston, broke through and drew first blood for her team, scoring one point.  A major penalty on Mummy Dearest led to a reskate, where Truckstop Trixie was able to break out and score two for the Rhinestones.  A grand slam jam from Lynnie Bruise put the Putas back on top.  Miss Canada answered with a full jam of her own.  Rookie standout La Princesa added two more points for the Putas.  A minor penalty called on Rollergazm drew a pillow fight on the penalty wheel, and Heine Dancer won the pillow fight in her usual colorful fashion.  A one point jam by Natorious ended the first quarter, bringing the score to Rhinestone Cowgirls 6, Putas del Fuego 8.

A holdover pushcart penalty from the first quarter started things rolling for the second quarter.  The sisterly team of La Princesa and Chicle out-pushed Ali Mony and Truckstop Trixie.  Kategory 5 delivered a five point grand slam to shift the momentum of the bout towards the Rhinestones. A minor penalty put Skate Wolf into a tug of war match with Holly Peno.  Holly won.  Truckstop Trixie scored a grand slam, followed by a two point jam from Chicle. La Princesa picked up a minor penalty and had a very exciting arm wrestle versus Mummy Dearest.  La Princesa won, continuing the Putas’ penalty domination.  Miss Canada next scored three points for the Rhinestones, but Mummy Dearest was given a minor for tripping.  The long jump was the penalty that came up on the wheel.  The Rhinestones subbed in Truckstop Trixie for Mummy Dearest.  They lost two points when Heine Dancer won the long jump.  Penalties aside, the Rhinestone finished the first half with dominance on offense, with Al B Nasty contributing three points and Kategory 5 adding another four to her total.  The score at the half: Rhinestone Cowgirls 22, Putas del Fuego 10.

Just like the second quarter, the second half began with a holdover penalty:  a tug of war between Ali Mony and Chicle.  Ali Mony won, signaling a complete turning of the tide in favor of the Rhinestones.  Kategory 5 helped continue the Cowgirl’s strong offense with a three point jam.  Death Vallery was called for a minor and lost her pillow fight against Miss Canada. Rollergazm and Heine Dancer split a jam with two points apiece.  Truckstop Trixie scored another full jam while the defense held La Princesa to only one point.  By this point in the bout, it was clear that the Rhinestones were in control.  But the Putas never gave up, continuing to skate hard and fight for every point and block.   Truckstop Trixie won a two lap duel over Holly Peno by catching up to Holly and tackling her while somehow twisting herself over the finish line first.  On the next jam, a fight broke out between Kategory 5 and Death Vallery.  Kategory 5 was ejected from the bout for biting, while Death Vallery earned a major penalty for unsportswoman-like conduct.  Neither team scored during the reskate.  Truckstop Trixie and Lynnie Bruise skated a very tight stride-for-stride jam, where each of them scored four points.  After the last jam was called off defensively by Miss Canada, the score was Rhinestone Cowgirls 37, Putas del Fuego 15.

Miss Canada went on to open the fourth quarter with a four point jam; La Princesa also scored two for the Putas.  The Rhinestone Cowgirls made use of their substantial lead to give some of their newer jammers a chance to get some experience.  Skate Wolf, Dill Dozer, Al B Nasty, and Natorious all took turns at the line for the Rhinestones.  After a fight broke out between multiple skaters, Crybaby went after one of the referees and was ejected from the bout.  She sprayed the crowd with her baby bottle as she exited.  Heine Dancer took the last penalty of the night, winning a pillow fight over Ali Mony.  The last jam was the very evenly matched Truckstop Trixie and Lynnie Bruise.  Neither skater scored, leaving the final score at Rhinestone Cowgirls 41, Putas del Fuego 19.

Join TXRD at the Convention Center on June 20 and 21 for the second annual “Battle on the Bank 2: Capital Punishment” banked-track tournament.  The tournament will feature the TXRD All Scar Army, as well as many top teams from around the country.  See you at the Thunderdome!
