Will the Holy Rollers keep their undefeated streak, or will the Cherry Bombs give the Rollers a proper smack-down? One thing’s for sure: this bout is not to be missed.

Both the Putas del Fuego and the Rhinestone Cowgirls came into this bout looking for their first win. Both teams are loaded with rookie skaters, and both teams have veteran skaters who are highly motivated to score a victory. After some great pre-bout entertainment by One-Eyed Doll, the two teams made their entrances. In a bit of role reversal, the Putas entered dressed in red, white, and blue, and proclaimed themselves “America’s Team.” The Rhinestone Cowgirls entered with a mariachi band, and each skater was accompanied by a cowboy escort. The teams then took the track, and a very exciting game was on.
The Rhinestone Cowgirls took an early lead after solid jams by Rollergazm, Truckstop Trixie, Miss Canada, and Kategory 5. Chola, Heine Dancer, Evil Stellator, and Lynnie Bruise put up some points for the Putas. In general, the play was very scrappy, with both teams fighting for each point they scored. At the end of the first quarter, the score was Rhinestone Cowgirls 18, Putas del Fuego 11.
The second quarter began with a two-lap duel between Chola and Peachy Mean. Like the rest of the bout, this duel was hard fought, ending with Chola using Peachy Mean’s belt to whip herself across the line. The Putas then began chipping away at the Rhinestones’ lead. The progress of both teams was sometimes hindered by the jammer stepping off the track, passing other players illegally, and hard blocking in the pack. (Hell’s Belle in particular threw some fierce and effective blocks.) Miss Canada scored a full jam–there were very few of those in this bout. Several nice whips were given by Miss Canada of the Rhinestones and Cry Baby of the Putas. The Rhinestones’ Natorious showed some soild pack work. At halftime, the score was Rhinestones 30, Putas 22.
The Putas came out at the start of the third quarter with fire in their eyes. (I’d love to know what they talked about at halftime.) Chola in particular was slamming her way through the pack and nibbling away at the Rhinestones’ lead. Kategory 5, who in general skated very impressively, was way out in front with a chance to score big when she lost her footing and took herself out. Chola and Mummy Dearest fought tooth and nail at pivot to prevent skaters from getting past. After several penalties and points scored here and there, Heine Dancer scored two points to tie the score at 32! After a penalty, another jam, and a really great block on the PDF jammer by Peachy Mean, the third quarter ended with score tied at 33.
Every jam and penalty in the fourth quarter would really matter–these teams were so close! Miss Canada jammed against Evil Stellator, and both scored four points to tie the score 37-37. In the next jam, Truckstop Trixie went up againt Chola. Trixie flew through the pack; Chola dropped back to play defense and successfully kept her from scoring any points. A minor penalty on Kategory 5 put her in a pillow fight against Heine Dancer, who took the crowd vote, making the score 37-36 in favor of the Putas.
The next jam was Evil Stellator vs. Miss Canada; Miss C scored three points to make the score 39-37, in favor of the Rhinestones. Kategory 5 scored two points against Lynnie Bruise after three terrific whips in row by her blockers (sorry I didn’t see who you were ladies, but it rocked!). The score became Rhinestones 41, Putas 37. On the next jam, Kategory 5 picked up her third minor penalty, which sent her to the penalty box. Rollergazm filled in for her as jammer; she took a hard fall, the jam was called off, and no points were scored. Evil Stellator vs Truckstop Trixie: Evil Stellator scores two points for the PDF. (Trixie was taken hard to the rail by Chola.) Rhinestones 41, Putas 39. A minor penalty was then called on Moko Loco; she took on Mummy Dearest in a tug of war, easily winning and hanging on to the point for the Putas. The last jam was Heine Dancer vs. Miss Canada. Miss Canada was totally blocked by Holly Peno. Miss Canada dropped to the back of the pack to play defense, and Heine Dancer as unable to score before time ran out, giving the Rhinestone Cowgirls their first win since 2006!
Final score: Rhinestone Cowgirls 41, Putas del Fuego 39.
Everyone attending this bout should feel like they got more than their money’s worth between this fantastically competitive bout and the two great bands (One Eyed Doll and Black Irish).
The next bout should also be very exciting–the Holy Rollers will be taking on the Cherry Bombs in an extremely important bout. See you there!
