Cherry Bombs vs Putas Del Fuego Bout Recap by Lady A

The trash talking began well before bout day rolled around for the Cherry Bombs versus Putas del Fuego bout.  When these two teams met last year, the game finished in a tied score, bringing on a sudden death overtime that resulted in a win for the Putas.

Both teams had a lot to prove on Sunday.  After two great entrances–the Cherry Bombs entered in masks carrying bloody body parts and the Putas entered as a chain gang–both teams got down to the business of revenge.  And it was vengeful indeed.

The first quarter got off to a quick start with members of both teams mixing it up on the track.  Rocky Casbah, jamming often in this bout, turned in 3 full jams to boost the Cherry Bombs to an early lead.  She often jammed against Chola, which is one of those classic matchups that ensures fireworks.  Needless to say, the crowd was not disappointed.  It also became quickly evident that this bout was also going to be a huge defensive battle.  The Green Wall of Bombs (Varuca Assault, Honey Homicide, Ginjure Scraps [finally returning to the track after injury--yay!] and Polly Urethane) threw out lots of hard hits and important blocks.  The Putas’ Wall of Fire, led by vets Helle’s Belle and Holly Peno, answered with hits of their own.  Score at the end of the first quarter–Cherry Bombs 25, Putas del Fuego 11.

The second quarter brought more of the same.  The Bombs jammed a steady rotation of Rocky Casbah, Lucy Cannon, and Kate or Dye. The Putas jammed Chola and Death Vallery regularly, but also used this game as opportunity to try out new rookie jammers.  Evil Stellator saw the most action, but Cocochina, Heine Dancer, Lynnie Bruise also had their turns at the jam line.  After a second quarter filled with lots of minor penalties, the score at the end of the first half was Cherry Bombs 35, Putas del Fuego 21.

Half time featured a cheer off/dance off between the teams’ jeerleaders, The Bomb Squad and The Flamers.  Many dance moves were thrown down and both groups brought it on.

The third quarter has lots of Rocky vs Chola jams, with both skaters pulling out their A-games.  In this quarter there was also a lot of strategic jam call-offs.  Stepping off the track and losing lead jammer status definitely hurt a couple of times.  The teams also started getting scrappy–lots of small fights between skaters.  End of 3rd quarter: Cherry Bombs 49, Putas del Fuego 27.

Fourth quarter–more fights, including a couple of bench clearers (no love lost between these teams–is this the next big rivalry?).  Lots of penalties in the fourth quarter as well, including a pair of arms wrestles (Rocky Casbah vs. Crybaby and Polly Urethane vs. Moko Loco), both of which were won by the Bombs.  The bout ended with a rarely seen Ginjure Scraps jam (three points for her!), and the Cherry Bombs took the victory 61-32.

Penalty Fun:
-Titz McGee continued her tug of war dominance, winning one for the Putas
-Great two-lap duel between Chola and Varuca Assault–Varuca tried a great take out of Chola, which would have been awesome if it had worked.  Chola wins!
-Pillow Fights–Honey Homicide vs Heine Dancer–Heine won.  Ginjure Scraps vs Death Vallery–the heavily Puta leaning crowd said Death Vallery won, but I strongly disagree.

Other stuff:
-There was some really impressive blocking (as well as jamming) from Rocky Casbah, including one jam in the first quarter where she took Holly Peno out twice
-Evil Stellator is one to watch–great potential in this rookie Puta
-The Putas sufered from an inexperienced pack
-Both teams on several occasion took their own jammer out accidentally
-Heine Dancer sported a tutu as part of her uniform, and the Cherry Bombs debuted new lime green uniforms
Overall, it was a very entertaining bout.  This was a rough initiation for the young Putas; the Cherry Bombs were at last able to benefit from their strong defensive play and experienced jammers.

See you all the next bout on March 30:Hellcats vs Holy Rollers.
