Pinto’s Recap - ASA vs HR
OK..first, let me say how happy I am that the season is finally here!!! Man, what a kickoff.
Don’t let the final score fool you, that was a great bout. The skaters were fired up, the refs were ready, the sellout crowd..let me say that again..the bout SOLD OUT. Heard they were actually turning people away. Congrats to the people for coming out and being hungry for some banked track action. Oh, and being loud and completely into it, too.
From the first whistle it was clear that both teams were ready to shake off the off season rust and let out the pent up aggression. This was a choppy bout, for an expo. The intensity was pretty high.
My standouts: Rollers offense- Sacralicious was flying around the track. That girl is going to have a big season if she keeps skating like that. She was fast, tough, and cut through the pack really well.
Smarty was…well, Smarty. Her skating is always an unbelievable exhibition. For those that have seen it, you know what I mean, For those that haven’t, you need to watch the spins and cuts that only she can do.
Defense– Give total credit to the captains for leading the charge. Punky was blocking pretty fiercely, and we could all see her confrontation with Chola coming 3 quarters before it happened.
Karma got a major penalty for the first time. We were all stunned by that. She clashed most often with Rocky, some pretty intense little skirmishes.
And props to the rookies, especially Cathy Lix..they put that poor girl into the rail so many times it was painful, but they took it like champs.
Standout move to me was Helena Handbasket’s signature rail move. She was getting sent over, but grabbed the rail and flipped around and stayed on the track..awesome
All-Scar standouts: offense Chola…well, like Smarty, what more can you say? She turned it up a little in the second half. She’s fierce, fast, and darn fun to watch.
Rocky…love to watch her mess with the opposing jammer before the whistle. No one plays the psychological game better, and she was burning up the track when she broke from the pack
Dixie was impressive. She was cutting through the pack really well. A good sign for Hellcat fans. [ Side note, hope Dirty's knees are OK. She got tangled up on a jam and tweaked both of them.. get better soon!!]
Defense– um, it WAS the All-Scars, how do you pick out one? Knottie and Varuca were solid. Homicide and Hell’s Belle were giving the Roller jammers fits.
One fun lineup was the All-Hellcat (with one former Hellcat) set. Dixie jamming with Purr Anna, Knottie, Dirty Blonde, and Homicide. Ain’t nobody getting through that pack.
All in all a great bout. Fun to watch. I’m stoked for the rest!!
Notables in the crowd..I saw Loca and G Spot, Betty Ta’ Roll, Mustang Sally, La Muerta.
The Whores were out in force and reclaimed our turf. TURN 4 is home again!
